How to Generate Certificates from Google Forms (No Code)
Turn Google Forms responses into personalized PDF certificates in bulk. Export your responses to CSV, upload to Diro, and generate hundreds of certificates in one click—free.
You just ran a workshop and collected 200 sign-ups through Google Forms. Now everyone expects a certificate of completion—each with the right name, course, and date.
Google Forms is great at collecting responses. But it stops there. It has no way to turn a row of answers into a designed, print-ready certificate. So most people end up doing the worst part by hand:
- Copy each name out of the responses sheet
- Paste it into a Canva or Google Slides template (5+ minutes each)
- Export, rename, and send the PDF one at a time
There's a faster, honest way to do this. In this guide, I'll show you exactly how to go from Google Forms responses to a batch of personalized PDF certificates using your responses spreadsheet and Diro's Google Forms to certificate workflow—no code, no design skills, and no per-certificate fee.
Design once. Generate hundreds.
First, an honest note about "connecting" Google Forms
A lot of tools promise a magic "connect Google Forms" button. Let's be straight about how this actually works today.
Google Forms does not offer a public API that lets a third-party tool subscribe to new responses the way Typeform or Tally do. So there is no live, real-time connector between Google Forms and Diro right now.
What does work—and works reliably—is Google's own export path. Every Google Form can send its responses to a Google Sheet, and any Google Sheet exports to CSV in two clicks. Diro reads that CSV directly. That's the workflow this guide covers, and it's the same workflow that produces exactly the same certificates a native integration would.
If you want a one-click native integration when it ships, you can register your interest on the Google Forms to certificate page—it's on the roadmap. Until then, the CSV route below takes about five minutes to set up and costs nothing.
The Problem with Doing It by Hand
Say you issue certificates after every cohort, workshop, or exam. For each recipient, the manual process looks like this:
- Open the Google Forms responses (or the linked sheet)
- Copy the recipient's name
- Open your certificate template in Canva or Slides
- Paste the name, update the date and course
- Export as PDF
- Rename the file so it's not
certificate (1).pdf - Repeat for every single row
Time per certificate: 3–7 minutes.
For 200 attendees, that's 10–23 hours of copy-paste—and one typo means starting a certificate over. It doesn't scale, and it's the kind of work that adds zero value to your program.
The Solution: Google Forms → CSV → Certificates with Diro
The idea is simple: your Google Form already holds every field you need (name, email, course, score). Export those rows once, hand them to Diro, and let it stamp out one certificate per row.
Here's the full workflow.
Step 1: Export your Google Forms responses to CSV
Open your form and go to the Responses tab. You have two easy options:
- Direct download: Click the three-dot menu in the Responses tab and choose Download responses (.csv). Google gives you a CSV of every submission.
- Via Google Sheets (recommended): Click Link to Sheets to send responses into a spreadsheet, then in that sheet choose File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv). This is handy if you want to clean up column names or filter rows first (for example, only people who passed).
Either way you end up with a CSV where each column header is a form question—Full Name, Email, Course, Score—and each row is one respondent.
Tip: rename your columns to short, clean keys before exporting (e.g. name, email, course, date). It makes the next step tidier. Diro also accepts Excel (.xlsx) files if you'd rather export that way.
Step 2: Design your certificate template once
In Diro's visual editor, build your certificate design a single time. Start from the ready-made certificate template or a blank page, then:
- Upload your organization's logo and set brand colors and fonts
- Position the recipient name, course, and date exactly where you want them
- Insert dynamic fields with
{{field}}syntax—{{name}},{{course}},{{date}}—so each one gets filled per row - Optionally add a QR code that links to a verification page, or a signature image
Because Diro is a document design tool, you get precise, Figma-style control over spacing and layout—not just a fill-in-the-blank box.
Step 3: Upload your CSV and map fields
Import the CSV you exported in Step 1. Diro reads the column headers and lets you map each one to a field in your template—Full Name → {{name}}, Course → {{course}}, and so on. You do this mapping once.
| name | course | date | |
|---|---|---|---|
| John Smith | [email protected] | Python Basics | 2026-07-10 |
| Sarah Lee | [email protected] | Python Basics | 2026-07-10 |
Step 4: Generate all certificates at once
Click generate. Diro renders one personalized PDF per row—500 respondents means 500 certificates, each with the correct name, course, and date. Download the whole batch as a single ZIP file and you're done.
No manual editing, no renaming, no typos.
Use Cases
Online course & workshop completion
Collect completions through a Google Form, export the responses, and issue completion certificates in one batch. A coding bootcamp can turn a 200-row response sheet into 200 certificates in the time it takes to grab a coffee.
Event & webinar attendance
Run attendance sign-ups through Google Forms, then generate attendance certificates with the session name and date filled in per attendee.
Exams & assessments
Only want certificates for people who passed? Filter your Google Sheet to rows above your cutoff before exporting, then generate certificates only for that group. You can even show the score on the certificate with a {{score}} field.
Membership & training programs
HR and training teams collect completions via Google Forms across departments and generate compliance certificates in bulk—one design, hundreds of recipients.
Why Not Just Use Canva or Google Slides?
You can build one certificate in Canva. Scaling it is where it falls apart.
| Aspect | Canva / Google Slides | Diro |
|---|---|---|
| Per-certificate editing | Manual, one at a time | Automatic, one per CSV row |
| 200 certificates | ~10–20 hours | One click after setup |
| Data source | None—retype everything | Google Forms CSV or Excel |
| Batch download | Export one by one | Single ZIP of all PDFs |
| QR verification codes | Manual | Built-in verification page |
| Precise layout control | Limited | Figma-style numeric control |
Canva is a fine place to design one certificate. Diro is built to generate the whole batch from your Google Forms data.
Add QR Verification (Optional)
Certificates are easy to fake if there's no way to check them. Diro can attach a unique QR code to each certificate that links to a public verification page—so anyone scanning it lands on a page confirming the certificate is genuine, who it was issued to, and when. Useful for professional credentials, compliance training, and anything where authenticity matters.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | What You Get |

FAQ
Can Diro connect to Google Forms directly? Not with a live, real-time connector—Google Forms doesn't expose the public API that would require. Today you export your form responses to CSV (or Excel) and upload them to Diro, which produces exactly the same certificates. A native integration is on the roadmap; you can register interest on the Google Forms to certificate page.
How do I export Google Forms responses to CSV? Open your form, go to the Responses tab, click the three-dot menu, and choose Download responses (.csv). Or click Link to Sheets, open the linked spreadsheet, and use File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv).
How many certificates can I generate at once? As many as there are rows in your CSV. The Free plan includes 50 certificates per month and Pro includes 500. Each generation run produces one PDF per row, downloadable as a single ZIP.
What file formats does Diro export? PDF (the default for certificates) and PNG. Both are print-quality.
Can I add QR codes for verification? Yes. Diro can attach a unique QR code to each certificate linking to a public verification page that confirms the certificate is genuine.
Can I only issue certificates to people who passed? Yes. Filter your Google Sheet to the rows you want before exporting to CSV—only those rows become certificates. You can also display the score on the certificate itself.
Do I need design skills? No. Start from the pre-built certificate template and adjust the text, logo, and colors. You never touch code.
Does this work with Excel or other form tools?
Yes. Diro accepts both CSV and Excel (.xlsx) uploads, so any tool that exports to those formats works. If you use Typeform or Tally, Diro also supports live webhook integrations for real-time generation.
